GLEANINGS FROM HERE & THERE. A sort.of glorified vacuum cleaner is being used by General Motors in U.S.A., in research into the amount of air which can be drawn out of a car by window arrangements. The idea is to solve the draught and pains in the neck problem. Defendant: “I might have sworn accidentally in front of the policeman, but one must swear sometimes, mustn’t one?” “But one must be a bit careful in front of whom one is speaking or one gets fined, doesn’t one?”
Two German motoring pioneers were awarded last year, two of the three national prizes for special service to the nation. One went to Dr. Fortz Todt, inspector-general of highways and originator of the “auto-bahn” roads, and ihe other to Dr. Ferdinand Parsche, Greater of the “People’s Car” or Volkswagen which will this year be sold for about £BO to German people.
