CAR ACCIDENTS

TWO MEN IN HOSPITAL. CRASHES NEAR GREYTOWN. As the result of a car proceeding to Trentham crashing into, a small concrete bridge north of: the Tauherenikau Hotel, on the main highway, on Saturday morning two Nireaha farmers, Messrs John Spring and Claude Goss, suffered severe facial injuries. Both men were admitted to the Greytown, Hospital. The accident occurred between 10.30 and 11 a.m., when the two men were travelling to the Trentham races. The car, which was a new model, was extensively damaged. It was driven by Mr Spring. Mr Goss and Mr Spring each received a broken nose and suffered cuts and bruises. At about 3.45 p.m. on Saturday a small car, in which there were four persons, turned a somersault when it left the bitumen on the main highway near Greytown. The car was driven by Miss Clarke, of Marion Street, Wellington. No one was injured, though all the occupants were severely shaken. It appears that a car came out of the Greytown Fruit Growers’ orchard and the car which came to grief swung over rather sharply, with the result that it left the bitumen, ran on to the grass at the side of the road, and turned a somersault.
