TRAFFIC CONGESTION

CHILDREN AND MOTOR CARS IN POWNALL STREET. POSSIBILITIES OF SERIOUS ACCIDENT. At certain times of the day there is a serious congestion of traffic along Pownall Street from Wairarapa College to St. Matthew’s School. Children proceeding to and from school are to be seen riding on bicycles three or four abreast, sometimes on both sides of the road. There is, as well, 'a considerable volume of motor traffic in this street and the possibility of a serious accident is a real one. The congestion has become worse now that the bulk of the West School children are proceeding to the College to receive tuition. There are three intersecting streets, ' Pownall, Essex and Cole, where the danger of accidents is further increased. It is suggested that something should be done to ensure that the children refrain from riding more than two abreast and motorists would be welU advised to exercise extreme care in this locality.
