WAIRARAPA GOLF CLUB. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the annual meeting of the rapa Golf Club held on Wednesday night, the following officers were elected for the ensuing year: President, Mr J. Carne Bidwill; secretary, Mr A. Barton; treasurer,, Mr N. C. C. Shepherd; auditor, Mr H. R. Bloxam; captain, Mr H. Lawson; committee, Messrs. W. H. Rowles, A. C. Pearce, H. C. Pearce, K. H. Allen, W. Fountain. Ladies’ section: Captain, Mrs Bidwill; secretary, Miss Suzanne Collins; committee, Miss M. Pearce, Mesdames Bourke, Shepherd and Pope. Miss Norma Shepherd and Messrs. R. Pearce, J. Wilson and McWilliams were elected members.
The opening day was fixed for April 22. A presentation was made to Mr D. C. Collins, who is leaving for England shortly, in recognition of his 21 years’ continuous service as secretary of the Club. Opportunity was also taken of presenting Miss Suzanne Collins with a memento of her winning the New Zealand championship in 1938. In the absence of Mrs J. Carne Bidwill, wife of the president, Mr J. W. Card (vicepresident) on behalf of the members, made the presentations. Mr and Mrs Collins later entertained the members of the club at a social. Personal iltems. Miss J. Innes, who has been visiting her brother, Mr Alex Innes, Underhill Road, left yesterday for Africa. Miss Innes is travelling by aeroplane from Sydney to Africa. Mr E. R. W. Bidwill sailed yesterday for England. Mr and Mrs J. W. Holland and Miss Z. Holland left yesterday on a visit to Napier. LEAGUE OF MOTHERS. FIRST MEETING OF YEAR. The League of Mothers held its first meeting for the year yesterday afternoon in the Parish Hall, when Mrs Archie Clark presided over a very good attendance. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Lowell, F. Benton, Charles, Watson and S. W. Burt. Mrs Clark introduced the speaker for the afternoon, Mrs Bennett, of Wellington, who gave an interesting address on the Maori art of weaving. Accompanying Mrs Bennett were Mrs Cameron (provincial secretary) and Mrs Jansen (secretary of the Island Bay branch) who both spoke on League work. The afternoon tea hostesses were Mesdames Hardie, Jury, Lang and Chas. Buck. Queen Carnival. Miss Ann Fellingham is to take the place of Miss G. McTaggart, as the Featherston candidate in the Queen Carnival. Great interest is being taken in the Plunket ball. A capable committee has been formed with Mrs Roy Donald and Mr N. C. C. Shepherd as joint secretaries.
