THE FINAL GAME
CAHN’S TEAM AT AUCKLAND SLOW SCORING BY ENGLISHMEN: NARROW ESCAPE BY DEMPSTER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Sir Julien Cahn won the toss today against Postles, and the English cricketers went in first for the final game of the tour against the New Zealand champion side for the past three seasons. The match is tweive-a-side, and the Auckland team includes seven men who have represented the Dominion. The first incident was the narrow escape by Dempster who nearly played Cowie on to his’wicket with the total at seven runs. Half an hour’s play produced only 21 runs and of these Dempster had made 14 and Mudge six. At 12.15 p.m. the Englishmen had hardly accelerated the scoring rate, the board then reading 27 for no wickets (Dempster 20. Mudge six, extras'one).
