LAND PURCHASE
1700 ACRES FOR MASTERTON • MEAT FIRM. AREA TO BE CULTIVATED. An area of 1700 acres of gorse, scrub and manuka land alongside the Woodside Railway Station was recently purchased by Messrs. T. Borthwick & Sons, Ltd! The contract for bringing the land into cultivation has been lot to a Greytown firm, which intends using modern machinery for the work. When the job, estimated to take about two years, is completed, it is understood that the land will be used for root crops and holding paddocks. Other areas in the vicinity have in the past been brought into cultivation and are now producing good crops.
The land was purchased from two settlers. The work of the contractors has been made much easier as the result of a fire which swept over practically the whole of the acquired area recently.
