FEATHERSTON
SOUTH WAIRARAPA RIVER BOARD. WAIRARAPA LAKE FLOODING. ("Times-Age” Special.) At a meeting of the South Wairarapa River Board there were present Messrs R. McDougall (chairman), R. W. Matthews, A. Linton, W. H. Martin, R. A. Donald. Accounts totalling to £271 5s 2d were passed for payment. This amount included a final payment to the Employment Board in respect to labour used in connection with the Turanganui River diversion work. The Board’s account with the Bank of New Zealand is in credit £564 18s 9d. The Public Works Department’s report on Mr H. F. Toogood’s hydraulic report on the flooding at Lake Wairarapa was received and held over pending the obtaining of a further report from the engineer. Bowling. The rink from Featherston (Messrs Davis, Fuge, O’Neale and Rolls) which took part in the tournament at Newtown during the weekend were only successful in two games. Mr Bloxam’s rink will represent the Featherston Club in champion of 'champions at Carterton on Saturday. Children Visit Petone. A number of children from the District High School travelled to Petone yesterday and visited the Petone Woollen Mills and the premises of the General Motors Ltd. The children were accompanied by Mr Kilsby and Miss Brash.
