After a promising start when Spring opened brightly with three 4’s, Bay of Plenty had five wickets down' for 53 shortlv after noon in a one-day match with Sir J. Cahn’s touring team, but fifty runs were up in 45 minutes. Smith, the slow spinner, who was, getting little assistance from the wicket was expensive against Bayley and Barlow, the last named hitting the first 6 off Smith to bring his score to 24 and the total to 88 in an hour’s batting. One hundred was brought up by Barlow with 4 to the leg boundary. At 12.30 Barlow had scored 39 and Bayley 40 with the total 118 for five wickets.
