URUWHENUA MURDER

KERR FOUND NOT GUILTY. ON GROUND OF INSANITY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) NELSON, March 14. Without retiring, the jury returned a verdict of not guilty on the grounds of insanity in the case in the Supreme Court today in which Arthur Frederick Kerr, aged 54. farmer, of Uruwhenua, near Takaka, was charged with the murder of his wife, Laura May Kerr, on December 15. Mr Justice Reed remarked on the distressing nature of the case. Responsible opinions of doctors were all one way. The circumstances attending the act itself undoubtedly warranted the finding that accused was insane. Accused was ordered to be detained in the mental institution in Stoke till the pleasure of the Minister of Justice was known.

Leave to apply to the AttorneyGeneral for a nolle'prosequi in referenc to the second charge of murder of a son was granted.
