MEETING OF WAIRARAPA BOARD.
COLLECTION OF PATIENTS’ FEES. The chairman, -Mr. H. H. Mawley, presided at the monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board held today. Others present were: Messrs. F. E. Bolton, A. Forsberg, J. F. Thompson, I. McLeod, F. Court, C. T. Richardson, W. I. Armstrong, D. McGregor, W. Thomas, Trevor Beetham. Arch Clark. P. R. Welch, Mesdames J. Robertson, S. Fletcher, Misses H. Card and C. McKenny. The return of patients at the institutions controlled by the board for February was as follows, the figures for the corresponding month of last year being given in Masterton Hospital.—ln the hospital at January 31, 120 (105); admitted during the month, 118 (108); total under treatment, 238 (213); discharged, 122 (90); remaining in the hospital on February 28, 116 (123). Daily average, 118.67 (113.89). Greytown Hospital.—ln the hospital on January 31, 27 (22); admitted during the month, 36 (41); total under treatment, 63 (68); discharged during the month, 35 (40); remaining in the hospital on February 28, 28 (28). Daily average, 21.9 (25.9). At the end of February there were 59 inmates in the Buchanan Home, as compared with 53 at the. same date last year. Pahiatua Hospital.— In the hospital on January 31, 24 (20); admitted during the month, 31 (36); total under treatment, 55 (56); discharged during the month, 40 (34); remaining in the hospital on February 28, 15 (22). Daily average, 17 (24). It was reported that patients’ fees collected from April 1 to February 28 were as follow, the figures of the corresponding period of 1937-38 being given in parentheses:—
Masterton Hospital, £5138 (£4842); GreytQwn v Hospital, £4056 (£3249); Pahiatua Hospital, £1193 (£1191); other hospitals," £473 (£550); District Nurses, Masterton, £67 (£32); Eketahuna, £22 (£ —). The Managing-Secretary, Mr. "Norman Lee, said that from April 1 to February 28 the maintenance expenditure was in excess of the receipts by the sum of £4566 5s 2d. In the capital account there was a credit balance of £2050 8s Bd. Local body levies and Government subsidy received up to the end of February amounted to £38,358, leaving £3056 outstanding. Mr. J. Robertson, M.P., wrote stating that an effort would be made to obtain from the Minister of Health a statement that validating legislation for the transfer of land required for tennis courts and swimming baths would be included in a “Washing-up” Bill. It was decided to make application to the Minister of Health for authority to make a grant of £ 100 to the District Nurse at Eketahuna, £75 to the Native District Nurse at Masterton, and £350 to the. Pongaroa Hospital Committee.
