POWER SHORTAGE
ANTICIPATED BY SUPPLY AUTHORITIES. <By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON NORTH, March 13. The urgency of taking steps to alleviate the possibility of a shortage of electric power supplies is stressed in a circular letter received by the ManawatuOroua Electric Power Board from the Electric Power Boards’ and Supply Authorities’ Association. “Over the past year there has been a growing measure of anxiety as to the ability of Government generating stations to meet rapidly-growing loads in both islands,” the circular proceeded. At a recent regional meeting in the South Island it was resolved to gather statistics and place them before the Minister and the department, and it was intended to hold a similar conference of North Island authorities as soon as the requisite data was available. There seemed to be no doubt, the circular concluded, that a shortage of power would be encountered either this year of next, unless steps were taken immediately. The board decided to supply immediately the data asked for by the association.
