PIPE BAND CONTEST
NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. RUAHINE SECURE TWO FIRSTS AND A SECOND. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, March 12. The Dominion pipe band contest was decided during the weekend. Timaru Highland won the A grade efiampionship and the Manawatu Scottish Society’s band the B grade. Thirteen bands competed and the features of the contest were a street march watched by a large crowd on Saturday, and a drum-majors’ display at the showgrounds today, the latter being most impressive and attracting 18,000 people. The placing in the individual events were:—
A Grade: Quickstep: Timaru, 1; Ruahine, 2; City of Christchurch, 3. Own selection: City of Christchurch, 1; Ruahine. 2; Timaru, 3. Drum-majors’ display: Ruahine, 1; Timaru, 2; City of Christchurch. 3.
B Grade: Quickstep: Manawatu 1; Canterbury Caledonian, 2; Gore, 3. Own selection: Manawatu, 1; Gore, 2; Temuuka, 3. Drum-majors’ display: Manawatu, 1; Gore, 2. The street march for both grades was won by Wanganui, with Timaru second, and Ruahine third.
