Defence Council troops drove out Communists from positions in the eastern district, taking 14,000 prisoners. UNCONFIRMED REPORT. MIAJA MAY OPEN GATES TO FRANCO. (Received This Day, 9.35 a.m.)BURGOS, March 10. A wireless message from Madrid states that the Republicans,, after a sharp fight with tanks and armoured cars, carried a Communist stronghold in the Plaza Manuel Becerra. A mysterious unconfirmed radio message from Madrid stated that Communists were spreading a report that General Miaja would open the gates of the city to General Franco. FIGHT IN ALMERIA. NINE COMMUNISTS KILLED. (Received This Day,- 9.35 a.m.) LISBON. March 10. A wireless message from Almeria announces a fierce fight in a studio in which nine Communists were killed.
