LOWER PRICES STIMULATE LAMB CONSUMPTION. HEAVY SUPPLIES OF CHILLED BEEF. Lamb market: Lower prices have stimulated consumption which is now good for the time of the year. Mutton market: Wethers, new season’s show improved prices, but demand quiet. Ewe trade remains slow. Beef market: Frozen beef, prices unchanged; trade fair. Chilled beef, prices weaker on the heavy supplies. N.Z. porker pigs: Lightweights - easier; heavyweights dearer on the short supplies. N.Z. baconer pigs: Firmer owing to higher prices Continental bacon. Boneless bobby veal: Unchanged, with poor trade. The above report was received by the Meat Board from its London office, which advises that the following are the ruling prices of wholesale quantities of the descriptions of frozen meat mentioned and are for representative parcels of the goods sold on Thursday. Levin & Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from their London agents dated March 9: Compared with fast week’s quotations, crossbred lamb 36/421b, l-8d a lb lower; wethers, under 481 b, l-8d higher; 43/561b, 3-8 d a lb. higher; 56/641b, |d a lb higher; 64/721b, fd a lb higher; others unchanged. Prices of wethers are new season’s. The market is steadier this week, but it is doubtful whethei- it has reached its lowest level.
