LIFE SAVING & SWIMMING
* CERTIFICATES FOR LANSDOWNE SCHOOL PUPILS. RECENT OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES. During February the scholars of Lansdowne School were given the opportunity of taking full advantage of outdoor activities. Several teams in life-saving were organised, and the following awards have been made by the Royal Life Saving Society:— First class'instructors’ certificate: I. J. Hills. Second class instructors’ certificate: Lynda Ross. Intermediate certificates: Eileen Holes, Josephine Price, Isabel Roys, Lorraine Donaldson, Janet Pauling, Maisie Pauling-, Ngaire Ackerman, Oriel Brisco, Shirley Newland. Elementary certificates: Joyce Orsborn, Josephine Price, Isabel .Roys, Shirley Newland. Agnes Roys, Esme Dunbar, Dorothy Faulknor, Doreen Thornton, Betty Bruce, Eileen Holes, Lorraine Donaldson, Janet Pauling, Ngaire - Ackerman, Maisie Pauling, Oriel Brisco. Bronze medallions: Lorraine Donaldson, George McPherson, Lynda Ross, Raymond Skews, Eileen Holes, Janet Pauling, Joan Wright, David Harris, Robin Cardno. In addition to these awards 51 pupils qualified for their distance certificates. The boys life-saving team gave a display of land ’ drill at the Primary Schools’ Swimming Carnival held recently, while the school relay team was successful in winning its event. At the recent combined sports meeting the girls’ team was successful in winning the marching competition. Certificate of proficiency (220 yards): Lynda Ross, Lindsay-Ross, D. Harris, J. Stewart, N. Orsborn, E. Dunbar, J. McCormack, N. Ackerman, R. Skews, M. McPherson, E. Pickett, D. Miller, B. McCormack, E. Law, N. Pauling. Learners’ certificate (50 yards): D. Thornton, O. Bettelheim, N. Hill, N. Kirk, D. Shaw, I. Graham, S. Pawson, E. Cross, J. Thornton, P. Peek, N. Tauwhare, L. Ranston, Joan Bell, M. MilJer. Beginners’ certificate (25 yards): JCole, R. Cole, B. Butler, M. Jones, J. Oliver, E. Clark, N. Gill, J. King, N. Evernden, V. Dewar, M. Seed.
