PREPARATIONS FOR TOMORROW'S RACES. RAIN BENEFITS TRACK. ("Times-Age” Special.) The rain that fell throughout Wednesday night and Thursday will have a very beneficial' effect upon the racing track and the sting of the hard ground will have been taken out of it for tomorrow’s race meeting. Fast times should be registered as a result. A working bee of stewards of the club was at the course yesterday making necessary improvements to the track and surroundings. Everything points to a successful meeting. Bus and train arrangements both north and south are most convenient for travellers. .Church Services. Church of England services will be held on Sunday next at Gladstone at 11 a.m. and at Parkvale at 2 p.m., by the Vicar, the Rev. W. F. Stent. Funeral. The funeral of the late Mrs Mary Marshall took place at the Clareville Cemetery yesterday. A large number of friends and relatives followed the remains to their last resting place. The pall-bearers were Messrs. C. Nicholls, M. Nicholls, P. Nicholls, V. Matthews, H. Catt, J. Haxton, A Rogers and W. Raison. The service at the house of Mr J. M. Nicholls, son-in-law, and at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. Canon Sykes, assisted by Captain B. Harewood, of the Salvation Army. Many beautiful tvreaths bore testimony to the respect in which Mrs Marshall Was held, OBITUARY. MRS E. P. HADLEY. ' ’ Mrs Elizabeth Prudence Hadley, wife of Mr Wm. Hadley, of Belvedere Street, Carterton, died in Croydon Hospital this morning. The late Mrs Hadley had been ailing for some time, and acting under medical advice she entered hospital this week. Despite careful nursing and medical attention her condition became worse. The late Mrs Hadley was born in Birmingham, England, 75 years ago. About 50 years ago she came to New Zealand and was married in Wellington. She was well-known and respected throughout the Carterton district and made many friends. She was a regular attendant at her Church and very rarely missed a service. There is no family. , The funeral will leave the residence l of Mr J. J. Hadley, Lincoln Road, Carterton, -on Zht- 2. p.m. for the Clareville Cemetery.
