TRENTHAM WILL SUIT SUBMISSION
(By
“The Cynic.")
Submission is such a big-striding filly that she was troubled by the turns at Wanganui where she ran a good third to Varimond. The Limond filly was an impressive winner at Trentham in the spring, and. as she is coming back to her best again, she is sure to give a good account of herself next week at Trentham. Back to Form. Copy Cat gives signs of coming back to her best form and it should not be overlooked that the Mimetic mare favours her home track, Awapuni. On her finishing effort at Bulls, Copy Cat should not be long in winning another race for the Hunterville sportsman, Mr J. J. Hayward. Better in Behind. Trentham is just the place to suit White Gold now that it has been proved that she needs to be ridden in behind. There are plenty of speed artists in the Tinakori Handicap the first day at Trentham and it should not be hard to check this mare until the false ■ rail. She has one good run and is sure to pay her expenses at the meeting if she can be saved for that effort. Hard Racing. Despite all his hard racing Earl Collossus comes up looking for more and this hardy Otaki representative cannot be left out of calculations among the hack milers this week at Trentham. Ready for Trentham. Bumble showed very solid form at Trentham in January and appeared to be an unlucky runner both days at Woodville. The fact that he is retaining his bloom and has been working along steadily since then leaves the impression that he will again find plenty of support in the highweight events next week. A Solid Hack. A slight mishap kept Ruatiti away from the Woodville meeting, but the big Limond gelding is reported to be quite right again now and he will be racing over his pet distance in the Tinakori Hack next week. Ruatiti appears to be a particularly good stamp of gelding and his solid weight should hot stop his winning way. First Success. Ruling Star, winner of the Trial Plate at Bulls on Saturday, is a four-year-old gelding by Chief Rulei' from Phrosa, owned by Mr G. F. Moore. He was trained for a while last season at Riccarton, but did not shape too well and Saturday’s was his first success. A Payable Purchase. The Trentham trainer, T. R. George, led. in four - winners at Bulls on urday, Trebor, owned by Mr H. W. Moss, Peerless, owned oy Mr R. J. Murphy, Drachma, owned by Mr P. Curtis, of Christchurch, and Ruling Star. Drachma has proved to be a good bargain for Mr Curtis, who purchased him at Trentham in January for 110 guineas. On the following day he ran second in the Trial Plate at the Wellington Racing Club’s summer meeting. Two days later he won the concluding event of the meeting. These two outings were worth £270 to Mr Curtis, and Saturday’s win brought this total to £3BO. Drachma is a three-year-old gelding by Iliad from Countersign by Paper Money from Kilberry and was bred by Mr R. Stewart, of Wellington, who sold him and the two-year-old, Counter Lunch (now at Wingatui), as he had other young horses (including Beau Vite) in training. Drachma was trained for Mr Stewart by George, who bought him for Mr Curtis. Drachma has been rehandicapped to 8.3 in the County Hack Handicap at New Plymouth on Saturday. Another Transfer. The Nightmarch gelding, Phalanx, was sold this week by his breeder, Mr D. Spence, to a Gore owner. Phalanx has raced consistently during the season, but has recorded only one stic- ’ cess. He will in future be trained by T. G. Pollock, who was associated witr. all the success gained by Palermo. By Iliad. Drachma, a winner at Rangitikei, is a three-year-old gelding by Iliad out of the Paper Money—Kilberry mare Countersign, dam also ■ of Linguist, Counterflight and Counter Lunch, and his success gave T. R. George his fourth win for the day. He handled the turns much better than he had done at Wanganui, and the victory was quite in accord with his improved showings on the track in private. English Steeplechaser. Macaulay, an eight-year-old gelding by Bolingbroke, is one of England’s best steeplechasers this, season. At Sandown Park last month he successfull v carried 12.7 (top weight) in the Prince’s Handicap Steeplechase, of £4OO. three miles five furlongs 2t yards. There were 13 starters, anti Macaulay won by six lengths in 7min. 58 l-ssecs Consistent. When Toro-Koura won at the Banks Peninsula meeting on Saturday afternoon he was having his twenty-fourth start this season, and his record now stands at six wins, six seconds, and two thirds. Saturday's success was his first win since he won the Flying Handicap on the opening day of the Invercargill meeting at New Year time, but in the 10 starts since that race has only finished out of the money on four occasions. Leg Trouble. The two-year-old Konneta has de- ■ veloped leg trouble and is likely to be *‘cn the easy list for some time. "It is ‘ ill-luck for Mr Max Steinberg to lose the services of the brilliant filly, who is one of the smartest juveniles of the season. Broken In. The yearling half-brother by Beau Pore to High Caste and Stretto has been broken in by K. J. Heaton, and has made his appearance on the track at Ellerslie. A dark brown in colour, he is a fine, upstanding colt and has a nice even temperament.
