BRITISH REVIVAL
IN RECREATION AND TRAVEL. THE NEW MOVEMENT. A review of developments in Great Britain by Mr C. Ruxton Bach, Physical Welfare Officer of the Department of Internal Affairs states that until recently the British system of recreation lacked centralisation and coordination. Private organisations sponsored most of the sports. The natural semi-individualism of the people made it difficult to consolidate recreational organisation and to establish a national system of public recreation. In recent years, however, as a resuilt of the terrific depressions in England, and the need of industrial recreation, with special emphasis on outdoor work, the necessity of co-ordination and co-oper-ation has been realised. The adult education movement includes recreation facilities, especially art work, folk dancing, dramatic activities and musical education.
