GROUP TRAVEL
PLANS FOR BOTH ISLANDS. HON W. E. PARRY’S APPROVAL. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) TIMARU, March 7. A scheme by which cheap holiday and recreational travels would be provided in New’ Zealand under a group system is likely to be brought into operation shortly according to a statement today by the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon W. E. Parry. The Minister said he had long been of the opinion that there was an opportunity for the adoption of a scheme by which parties, particularly mothers and families, could see at a low cost the scenic beauties of the country. He had had brought before him a scheme ’ by the Mount Cook Tourist Company the provisions of which earned his wholehearted support, for he saw in it the means of enabling the people of New Zealand to see their own country. He was glad to see, he added, that the company was prepared to pioneer the scheme in the South Island and a start could be made with the work. It was his intention to ask the National ’ Council of Physical Welfare and Recreation to investigate the quesction of group travel with the idea of providing ways and means for’ travel in both islands.
