MEETING OF COUNTY COUNCIL. TAR-SEALING OPERATIONS. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Eketahuna County Council the treasurer (Mr W. N. Richardson) reported as follows: County Fund Account, dr., £823 6s sd; Bridges Loan £BOOO Account, cr., £177 Ils 7d; Workers’ Dwelling Loan £lBOO Account, cr., £44 16s 2d; Workers' Dwelling Loan £1550 Account, cr., £74 6s 6d; Bridge Fund Account, credit, £B5 14s. Id. The position in the County Fund Account had improved to the extent of £325 during the past month. Receipts for the past month had increased considerably, a total of £3509 having been collected. Amounts of rates included in this figure totalled £2632. Messrs. D. M. Parsonson and E. I. McLean wrote in respect to the dangerous state of the Pah Valley Hill. It was stated that several minor accidents had occurred on the hill recently. The council was urged that some widening improvement work should be done before a major accident occurred. After a lengthy discussion in which tiie Alfredton riding councillors were of the opinion that the hill was really dangerous, it was decided that the engineer bring down estimates at the next meeting. The Road Safety Council wrote advising that at its next meeting it intended to impose restrictions on the use of motor cycles, and asked the council to forward its opinion on the matter. The council agreed 'not to express an opinion. It,was decided that the council’s allotted share to the Centennial Provincial Memorial at Petone be pajd, the amount being £l4. O. L. Anderson asked permission to erect a fence on the road line on the Hamua-Rongomai road. It was explained that the old fence, which had been destroyed by a fern fire, had been placed on the old road-line. It was decided to offer no objection, the engineer to supervise the work. The annual balance sheet was formally approved. The chairman said the office staff were to be congrated on the absence of “tags.” The engineer and men engaged on the tan sealing of No. 477 Highway were congratulated on their efforts in bringing the work to a successful conclusion. It was stated that £3OO had been saved by the staff undertaking the job. The next meeting of the council will be held on Wednesday, April 5. Wednesday had been gazetted as the half-holiday in the county. CRICKET. •' • BUSH DEFEAT PUKETOI. The Puketoi sub-Union played a challenge match with Bush for the Pickard Cricket Shield. Bush won comfortably by 259 against Puketoi’s 96. Montgomery, the well-known Wairarapa and Wellington cricketer, as well as a player for the Country team, was in form and put on 86 runs for Bush. He was caught out by Unison. McKay was next in line for runs, his total being 66. Stringfellow, ex-All Black footballer, was batting well for Puketoi until Robinson caught him out when his score stood at 26. Details are: Bush, 259 (Robinson 32, McKay 66, Montgomery 86, Dungan 36, Murch 18); Puketoi 96 (Stringfellow 26, H. Smith 22, Hislop not out 22). McKay took six wickets for 42 and Dungan four for 49. LAWN TENNIS. GREATHEAD CUP MATCH. Another very enjoyable game was played on the Kaiparoro courts in the Greathoad Cup contest, Nireaha beating Kaiparoro by 18 sets and 130 games to Kaiparoro’s 6 sets and 75 games.
