SOCIAL SECURITY

EFFECT ON FRIENDLY SOCIETIES. OBSERVATIONS BY GRAND MASTER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, March 5. Notice of the effect of the Social Security Act upon the membership of friendly societies is taken by the Grand Master, Mr John McKay, in the report which he is to present to the annual conference of the Auckland district Manchester Unity Independent Order of Odd Fellows. During the first nine months of the year, states the report, the strength of the order in the Auckland province was advanced beyond 10,000. but since September there had been a slump in initiations. “The passing of the National Security Act in October last year,” the report adds, “has affected the entry of new members who are anticipating the benefits promised under the Act.- Ministers of the Crown have informed Mr Shrimpton, secretary of the National Friendly Societies Council, that the section dealing with that portion of the Act which affects us as members of friendly societies has been postponed till some future date. Deputies of the Order and the Grand Master and members of the directorate are watching the position closely and members will be informed as soon as regulations affecting us are gazetted.”
