FEATHERSTON

WAIRARAPA RACING CLUB. MEETING OF STEWARDS. (“Times-Ace” Special.) The monthly meeting of stewards of the Wairarapa Racing Club was held on Thursday afternoon. There were present: Messrs J. W. Card (president), D. C. Collins, A. C. Pearce, E. R. W. Bidwill, J. F. Thompson, H. Lawson, E. D. Martin, T. Benton and J. Donald. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs D. H. S. Riddiford, D. Cameron, W. Howard Booth, C. J. Nix, Roy Barton and Roy Donald. It was decided to apply to the Racnig Conference to have January 1 and 2 and Easter Saturday and Monday, 1940, allotted for the club’s meetings. Messrs J. W. Card and W. Howard Booth were appointed the club’s delegates to the bi-annual conference. The programme of the Easter meeting had been approved by the Wellington District Committee. Mr E. V. Lane, Carterton, was the successful tenderer for the soft drinks, etc, booth. The allotting of the supplies of meat and stores was left in the hands of the secretary and the catering supervisor.

Six months’ leave of absence was granted to Messrs D. C. Collins and E. R. W. Bidwill. Wedding. A pretty wedding took place recently at St Mary’s Church, Karori, the contracting parties being. Mavis, third daughter of Mr and Mrs W. H. Macfarlane, of Wellington, and Douglas William, youngest twin son of Mr R. R. Currie and the late Mrs Currie, Featherston. The reception was held at the Grand Hotel. Mr and Mrs Currie later left for a tour of the north. Their future home is to be in Christchurch. . Vital Statistics. In February the following vital statistics were registered:—Births 1 2, deaths 0, marriages 1. Rainfall. The total rainfall for February was 91 points (February, 1938, 5.16 in). Rain fell on four days (February, 1938, on 12 days). The maximum fall was 24 points on the 19th.
