DEATHS DURING RETREAT IN CATALONIA REPUBLICANS INSTITUTING INQUIRY. INFRINGEMENT OF ORDER. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright.. (Received This Day, 11.5 a.m.) MADRID, March 3. The Republican Government has ordered investigations into the infringement of its order in respect to the lives of prisoners being taken to the frontier, presumably including the Bishop of Teruel and Colonel Rey Harcourt, rebel commander at Teruel. A message from Burgos on February *24 stated that rebel troops found in a gully near, the frontier 42 corpses. One of these was later identified as the Bishop of Teruel and another as Colonel Rey Harcourt, rebel commander at Tereul, who surrendered to the loyalists. The troops also found the bodies of four canons arid two priests. The rebels, it was stated, believe that the loyalists shot the prisoners while they were taking them through Catalonia in the course of the retreat. The ‘-Daily Telegraph’s” Paris correspondent states that 81 millions sterling worth of gold, claimed by both Republicans and Nationalists has been handed over to General' Franco owing to his de jure recognition.
