IMPORT POLICY

THE AUCKLAND PETITION. FORWARDED TO WELLINGTON. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, March 3. The importers’ petition to the Governor-General to suspend the operation of the import control regulations till validity has been tested in the Supreme Court has been forwarded to Wellington. Containing several thousand signatures, the petition is signed by merchants, shop and warehouse assistants, solicitors, accountants, farmers, commercial travellers, storemen, country storekeepers and typists throughout New Zealand. Bound in rich brown suede leather with gold lettering, the petition is an impressive-looking document. A preamble contains a statement by the present King on his ascension to the Throne; “You may be assured it is my determination to do all that lies within my power to safeguard the liberties of my people and to promote their prosperity and contentment.”
