COMBINED CARNIVAL
SPLENDID PROGRESS RECORDED. .SOME ATTRACTIVE FEATURES. At this week’s* meeting of the Beautifying Society--Y.M.C.A. Carnival Committee, the reports given by the various convenors marked splendid progress in almost all directions. The actual carnival effort will open with the staging of the Debutante's Revue in the Opera House on Saturday, March 11. Excellent rehearsals had been held and the other arrangements were well in hand. An endeavour was to be made to have a ticket selling drive under enthusiastic leadership. On Tuesday, March 14, a monster table tennis evening requiring 12 tables will be held in the three Y.M.C.A. halls, and for this many circulars had been distributed. Street advertising on the Friday night would culminate in a Grand Cabaret in the Municipal Hall on the same evening. The Social Hall would be used for bridge players at the same time. A capable committee was handling these arrangements. Saturday, March 18, is to be the big Carnival bay. A Mock Court will create interest and amusement in the morning, whilst all the fun of the failwill attract citizens to the Park in the afternoon and evening. In addition to a wonderful variety of sideshows and amusements, there is to be an excellent programme of athletic events on the Ova). The Inter-House girls' teams, Primary School girls and the Boy Scouts will give displays of marching, exercise and skill, and these items should lari colour and interest to the programme. In the emn ng arrangements have been marie ,o have the Park lighted and the activities of the side shows will be continued. The programme will, it is anticipated, include a fireworks display, and a gymnastic display by the Y.M.C.A. men. Items will be given by the Masterton Municipal Band at both sessions. An offer by the Masterton Swimming Club to hold a swimming carnival on the night of March 7. the net proceeds to be divided between the Carnival Committee and the Plunket Society was accepted with sincere gratitude.
Various committees of arrangement were appointed and it was decided to have a further meeting of the executive on Wednesday, March 8, at 7.30 p.m. , Organised parties of school -childien under supervision, will bo admitted to the Debutantes’ Revue at concession rates.
