STATE THEATRE
. DOUBLE FEATURE PROGRAMME. For lavishness of production, slickness of dialogue, and brilliance of the acting, “The Live Wire,” which will be shown at the State Theatre tonight, is said to Be hard to beat. All three ingredients, so important for the ultimate perfection of screen entertainment, are here in force. Whilst this is a drama of the real modern type, it is also - extremely funny, and its only fault is that the jokes come so fast that some are lost through laughter of the audience. For the romantic interest we have Jeane Gillie. Jack Buchanan’s glamorous leading lady costarring with Bernard Nedell. In the supporting cast are David Burns, Hugh Wakefield, Arthur Wontner, Irene Ware and Kathleen Kelly. The second attraction is “Kicking The Moon Around,” a brilliant new musical from Gaumont - British - Dominions, which brings to the screen an all-star cast headed by Ambrose and his Orchestra, Evelyn Dall, Harry Richman and Florence Desmond. Ambrose and his Orchestra, Universally famed by reason of their long-standing success on the stage and radio, provide something new in the way of screen entertainment in this film. “THE LADY VANISHES.” Alfred Hitchcock, probably the greatest English director of screen mysteries, has made such hits as “The 39 Steps,” “The Man Who Knew Too Much,” “Secret Agent,” and other successful films which have had his inimitable directorial touch are “Blackmail,” the first British talking film to be made, “The Lodger,” “The Ring,” “Murder” and “Sabotage.” At Islington Hitchcock made his first film, “The Pleasure Garden,” and there again he has made his latest, “The Lady Vanishes,” which comes to the State Theatre on Friday at 8 p.m. _____
