COLLEGE CARNIVAL

PROMISE OF AMUSING ENTERTAINMENT. A fine day is all that is required to ensure the Wairarapa College Carnival on Saturday next being an outstanding success. One boy travelled 80 miles to get his pony for the pony race. Different sections have formed themselves into working bees to ensure that their weight shall be felt in the major issue, while classes of boxers and wrestlers have been in hard training in orer that they may delight their audiences with short sharp encounters that thrill. Members of the ladies’ committee have been working with enthusiasm to ensure that the refreshment side and the stalls in particular shall be tempting, and customers are requested to bring jars for fruit salad and cream. The produce stall under the direction of Mr Hair is getting very special attention. On the amusement side the executive committee has excelled itself and from the pistol at 1.30 p.m. when the pony race starts from the Steam Laundry, under the direction of Mr T. V. Caverhill, the slow cycle race from Knox Church, directed by Inspectors McGregor and Milne, and the wheelbarrow race from the Kuripuni Triangle, in charge of Mr C. Williams, until the National Anthem, not a dull moment will be experienced. A ride in the cab —reputed to be the last of its kind in New Zealand —with the redoubtable Reg. on the box seat will call to mind episodes of bygone days, while the wonkey car, the miniature sulky, .and the ponies will give zest to the younger generation. The floating balls, Topsy Turvey, lawnmower race, morning wood chopping competition and many other attractions such as chewing over the future with Madame Spearmint, will complete a programme that will make one feel glad they were there, and the price is only sixpence. Children under twelve free.
