QUICKSTEP CONTEST

CONCLUSION OF BAND FESTIVAL; ST KILDA WIN A GRADE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, February 25. “Some of the playing was very fine indeed,” said the judge, Captain H. R. Shugg, commenting on the A and B grade quickstep events, which concluded the New Zealand brass bands’ championship contest at Addington Showgrounds this afternoon. St Kilda Municipal Band won the A grade and Ashburton Silver the B grade. “Quite a number of the bands, however, neglected to give proper expression to their music,” continued Captain Shugg, “though this is always a difficulty in a quickstep competition.
