A NOTABLE HORSE AJAX’S BRILLIANT WIN. POSSIBILITY OF AMERICAN • PURCHASE. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 11.50 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Newspaper sporting writers give the highest praise to Ajax’s performance in winning the Futurity Stakes in a downpour of rain on a sodden track, carrying the record weight for a four-year-old of lOst 61bs. The “Daily Telegraph’s” Melbourne correspondent says Ajax’s brilliant win in the Futurity Stakes may result in his purchase for racing and stud purposes in America. Mr E. K. Thornton, a steward of the Riverside Jockey Club, Kansas City, who is visiting Australia to report officially for several United States clubs on racing and horses in this country, said Ajax was 201bs better than any horse on the American tracks, and was worth every penny of the £50,000 asked for him. Mr E. L. Ballieu, one of Ajax’s part-owners, said Ajax is still for sale if anyone is prepared to pay the price.
