WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION’S COMPETITIONS FINAL OF SENIOR GRADE CHAMPIONSHIP. TRICKY WICKET WORRIES BATSMEN. The final match of the Wairarapa Cricket Association’s senior grade competition to decide the winners of the season was commenced at the Park Oval on Saturday in beautiful weather. The wicket was somewhat tricky and caused some trouble to the batsmen. Lansdowne, batting first, were dismissed for 126 and at the drawing of stumps Red Star had lost 7 wickets for 62. The field was fast. Clarke, one of Lansdowne’s opening batsmen, compiled a useful 27 before he was caught by Lambourn off N. Hoar. R. O’Callaghan carried his bat for 46, which was top score for the side. Greer 17 and Stubbings 13 were the only others to reach double figures. N. Hoar was the most successful bowler for Red Star, capturing six wickets for 46. F.‘ Hoar, three for 24, also did well. Red Star fared disastrously, seven wickets falling for 62. A. Bell and C. OLD BOYS COLLAPSE. COLLEGE IN GOOD POSITION. Wairarapa College were in a good position at the close of play in their match against Old Boys, played on the College ground. Old Boys collapsed in their first strike, being dismissed for 71, while College made 222. Only one Old Boys batsman, Alexander, 31, reached double figures. None of the others could make a stand. Hibbs, for College, captured five wickets for 21 off eight overs, Taylor took 2 for 26 and Upston 2 for 17. College played themselves into a commanding position, Wilson 44 and Tier 66, both giving a fine innings. For St. Patrick’s, Brice took 5 wickets for 30 and Beals 4 for 13. Second innings. 49 (Corlett not out 22, Colban 14). Brice took 2 wickets for 23 and Beals 7 for 9. College 192 (.Rankin 67, Miller 69, Hanley not out 21) defeated Old Boys 62 and four wickets for 92 on the first innings. In a match played at Martinborough, Martinborough 166 defeated Odd Fellows 100 on the first innings.
