SAVED FROM EXTINCTION

CANADIAN WILD SWANS. VANCOUVER. The Trumpeter and the Whistling wild swans, at one time plentiful in Canada, have been in danger of extinction as a result of depredations by hunters and by climatic conditions. Today, ‘these birds are protected by the Migratory Birds Treaty and the Canadian Government provides sanctuaries in their feeding and wintering grounds. In one of these, barley and other grain is shipped in by pack-horses, a distance of 75 miles, to ensure a plentiful supply for the flock. Latest indications are that, under the protective measures provided by the Government, these birds are again becoming more numerous.
