Continuous rain marred the Futurity Stakes day of the V.A.T.C. meeting at Caulfield. Ajax made a remarkable effort to register 1.281 for seven furlongs on such a sodden track. He has now won his sixteenth race in succession. Only Gloaming and Desert Gold, with 19 wins each, are ahead in regard to successive victories. Ajax has now won £27.475 in stakes. High Caste had an effortless win in the second division of the Alma Stakes. He cost his present owner, M. H. E. Tancred, 7000 guineas. The New Zea-land-bred Wilson impressed by his winning of the first division of the same event. The New Zealand-bred National, owned by Mr W. R. Kemball, won the St Clair Trial, but lost on protest to Landlaw. O. Phillips, rider of National, was disqualified for six months for foul riding.
