CHAMPION SINGLES FINAL. (Notes by “The Bowler.”) The deciding match in the champion of champions singles, played on Saturday last, between V. Taylor, of the Masterton Club, and R. Vile, of the Greytown Club, was a most interesting one. Both players gave a good exhibition of bowling, and it was not until after the 13th head was played that Taylor assumed the lead. On the first 5 heads, Vile scored 7 points, while Taylor failed to score. On the Bth head, Vile was leading by 6 points, but at the 11th head Taylor had reduced the gap to 2 points, Vile 8; Taylor 6. When the 13th head was completed, each player had scored 8 points. Taylor put on 5 points on the next 2 heads, the scores at the ljth head reading, Taylor 13; Vile 8. Taylor thus had a lead of 5 points but Vile reduced this lead to 2 points at the 18th head. Taylor 13; Vile 11. On the 19th Taylor scored 2 and a single on the 20th, the final score being Taylor 16; Vile 11. I must congratulate Taylor on his fine performance, as he won all his 5 games in the champion of champions. I know that all the members of the Masterton Club also offer their congratulations to -V. Taylor. Congratulations also to R. Vile on his being the runner-up, as he played most consistency in all his five games. The opinion was expressed by all the visiting bowlers that the green was in excellent condition.
