PIGEON RACING

MASTERTON CLUB EVENTS. The Masterton Homing Pigeon Club flew two young bird races recently, one from Napier 123 miles airline, and one from Ohakune; 110 miles airline distance. In the race from Napier for the Steer Cup, 32 birds were liberated in fine weather, but on their journey encountered heavy weather with a S.S.W. wind. Only three birds finished the course before the close of the race, the result being:—C. J. Douglas’s Dixie, 4 hours 34 mins 5 secs, 1; C. J. Douglas’s Black Malcolm, 4.34.11, 2; W. Steers, Amigo, 5.49.3, 3. In the race from Ohakune, 47 birds were liberated in fine sunny weather, the first six places for club points being:— W. Steer’s Blue Peter, 3 hours 14min 30sec, 1; T. Hirst’s Nymph, 3.15.36, 2; W. Steer’s Red Manfred, 3.15.54, 3; C. J. Douglas's Belgian Hope, 3.20.2, 4; C. J. Douglas’s Dewar. 3.21.10. 5; Stears and Miller’s Grizzly, 3.26.8, 6.
