Scenic Drive Praised.
“In my opinion it is a very fine drive and should be a wonderful attraction for the public round Auckland,” said the Hon R. Semple, Minister of Public Works, when referring to the Waitakere Scenic Drive. The Minister made a detour over the drive, when he was on his way to visit the military aerodrqme at Whenuapai. “The drive certainly seems to be something worth while,” added the Minister. “We must open up these scenic attractions in all parts of the Dominion and encourage the people to see the whole of their country. The view here is wonderful and I am satisfied the money has been wisely spent.”
Health in New Zealand. “It is absurd that in New Zealand, with its moderate climate and good food, we do not build up a perfectly fit young nation,” said Mr P. Stanley Foster, the newly-appointed president of the New Zealand branch of the Bri-' tish Medical Association, speaking to delegates to the biennial conference of the branch. “The average of young people is sadly deficient in New Zealand. By all reports Germany has the fittest young people. Why can this be achieved in spite of minimum food conditions? The answer seems to be that the youth movement is 100 per cent efficient in drilling the young boys and girls of Germany both in work and play, and we can surely learn something from it. Our compulsory territorial system was the nearest approach we have had to anything of the kind, and a reintroduction of it would certainly benefit our young men. and would lay a foundation for a defence force that we so badly need.”
