EKETAHUNA EWE FAIR

DALGETY & CO LTD. Messrs Dalgety and Co Ltd report as follows on the Eketahuna Ewe Fair held yesterday: A full yarding of all classes of ewes came forward to p large attendance of buyers. The older ewes yarded were of a good quality, but the 2-ths were not up to standard of • those yarded at late sales. Competition throughout was good, although values were much on a par with those ruling at ewe fairs held in the neighbouring districts during the last few days. We effected a total clearance, and the following will indicate values: 5-yr-old ewes, a/c Clee and Price. 16s lOd; a/c O. A. Bunny, “Mungaoronga,” 16s 7d; a/c F. Tildesley, 14s 9d: a/c W. B. Lowes, 13s, 13s 3d, 14s; 2-th ewes, a/c G. W. N.Z. LOAN & MERCANTILE. ■ The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co Ltd report: A full yarding of ewes of all ages came forward. We submitted 4,123 to a good attendance. The entry included well known lines of local ewes which come forward to this fixture annually, and for these competition was keen with prices slightly in advance of those obtained at recent fairs. Mr O. J. Welch’s 4-year ewes commanded keen competition, being penned in good order and condition and he had again the distinction of topping the sale in this section, 22s being the final bid. The 5-year pens included the favourably known lines, a/c Mr C. W. Gunderson and McLennan Estate, both lines meeting with a spirited demand to sell out at 19s and 18s 6d respectively. Mr C. Welch’s annual draft of 5-year olds were also an attractive pen and were purchased locally at 17s; 2-toolh ewes were well sought after with good prices resulting, and in these pens Mr Geo Olivant topped the sale with a pen of specially well grown, big framed sheep which sold out at 28s 6d under strong demand. Mr D. J. Olivant’s 2-tooths realised 28s 3d, this being the second top price of the sale. The general tone of the sale was bright for lines of any age up to p-year-olds, but cull pens, and failing mouth ewes were neglected. The attendance included buyers from Manawatu, Marton, Pahiatua. and Wairarapa districts whilst vendors generally, were well satisfied with realisations.
