CARTERTON

MOTOR CYCLIST INJURED. DAZZLED BY HEADLIGHTS OF CAR. (“Times-Age” Special.) Amotcr cyclist named Ireland was injured in an accident the other day. He was motoring along the roadway in the vicinity of the Taratahi cheese factory and becoming dazzled with the strong headlights of an approaching car drew oil the road. The cycle got out of control and ran into a fence. The result was that Ireland had a wrist broken. Gathering of War Vaterans. A large gathering of South African War Veterans took place on the race- ■ course at Levin last weekend. War veterans from all parts ofi the, Wellington District were present and a splendid day’s outing was enjoyed by all. Mr Geo W. Hart, of Carterton, was among those present. Personals. Mr Rae Williams, of the Carterton Post and Telegraph Department, has received notice of his transfer to Taihape. He will leave Carterton next week. Mr A. H. R. Zillwood, of the Post Office, - Carterton, who is at present in camp, has received notice of his transfer to -the. Pokeno Post Office, South Auckland. Mr A. J. King, of the Weber Post Office, who at one time was at Carterton Post Office, is to be again transferred to Carterton. The death occurred at the Wellington Hospital on Tuesday of Mr F. W. Flutey, at the age of 60 years. The late Mr Flutey was well known in Carterton, and at one time Ayas employed at Burling’s sawmill. Motor Accident. At one o’clock this morning a car driven by a Napier resident, when returning from the south , was involved in an accident in which the car was extensively damaged. Thirty yards before the impact the driver says a dog rushed at the car and to . avoid hitting it he swerved to his right and applied his brakes, evidence of. which can be seen on the road.' He struck the concrete kerb and in doing so the car must have jumped into the air for it struck an ironbark pole four or five feet up. The car must then have been on the footpath and from_the impact turned over on to the roadside. The impact splintered, the pole a : little, shook it from its base and broke the top cross arm. The occupant of the car was very lucky as he escaped with a few bruises.
