METHODIST CHURCH
IMPROVING CIRCUIT WORK. CONFERENCE ADOPTS PROPOSALS (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, February 22. Acting on suggestions in reports from commissions throughout the Dominion on the 'state of the church, the Methodist conference today adopted a number of resolutions proposing ways in which the effectiveness of the work in the circuits could be increased. Consideration of the reports is not yet complete and other matters in this connection have still to be discussed. Saying that the New Zealand Alliance was the churches, a deputation from the alliance appealed for wholehearted support in its work. Speakers emphasised that conference resolutions were a waste of time if not supported by the active assistance of the churches. The Rev H. T. Peat, Upper Hutt, appointed senior chaplain of the Methodist Church Conference, protested against the holding of weekend military bivouacs when training was carried out on Sunday. Tributes to the work of the Revs T. A. Pybus, W. Wills, W. J. Oxbrow', A. J. Seamer, W. H. Speer and C. A. Foston, who are retiring from the ministry were paid by delegates, particular reference being made to the services of Mr Seamer as superintendent of home and Maori missions for about 17 years.
