GAS METERS
REMOVAL FROM MASTERTON PREMISES. REFUSAL TO PAY MINIMUM RATE. When Councillor R .Russell sought a reason, at last night's meeting of the Borough Council .for the removal of 50 gas meters from Masterton houses, he was told by Illi- Gar Manager. Mi- J. T. Douglas, that “people arc not going to pay (he minimum rate of 55." The Mayor. Mr T. Jordan, said it was expected that would happen. Councillor A. D. Low. chairman of the Gas Committee, said that a good many consumers found it cheaper to have- the meters removed and put back again wiieii required rather than pay the minimum rate of ss. Councillor I’ussoll: "I understand that a lot will not go back again.” Tiie Mayor: "We anticipated that. Moton: arc not economic. The matter has l.iccn before the council before and it is too late to discuss it now.”
