Tar-sealing operations on the Main Highway between the Tuhitarata corner and Pirinoa is now being done. A distance of about one mile has been finished and given fine weather the work should be completed before the end of the month. Weather Conditions. The weather continues io be fine, although during the past few days the wind changed to the south with the result that the temperature dropped considerably. Rain is badly needed, especially by those who rely I on tanks for water for household purposes. In several cases water is being carted to the homes from nearby creeks. A north-westerly gale of unusual severity was experienced here on Saturday. Trees were uprooted and several sheds wore unroofed. Fruit trees were completely stripped. A miraculous escape from death was experienced by Miss Jessie Hobbs recently. When crossing the Whakatomotomo bridge on her cycle a gale which was raging at the time blew her off the bridge and into the river. Fortunately her uncle who was with her at the time was able to rescue her. She was severely injured and was conveyed to hospital.
