A sentence of four months’ imprisonment was imposed on each of four Maoris who appeared before justices of the peace at Hicks Bay. on charges of assaulting two women. The accused were Paparagihua Houkaumau. aged 24., Here Houkaumau. aged 22, Rewiri McClatchie, aged 21. and Heta Edwards, aged 20. Detective McWhirter stated that the accused had gone to the house of Maori woman, aged 80. and assaulted her and also a young woman of 18.
