SERIOUS LOSS
WIND DAMAGE IN APPLE. ORCHARDS. POSITION IN GREYTOWN. Damage estimated at several hundreds of pounds was done to the apple orchards in Greytown by the weekend gale. Fruit almost ready for picking was found blanketing the ground on Sunday morning and practically the whole of it is a total loss. Prospects for a successful season looked bright until this disaster overtook growers, who are now faced with the position of having to market less than one-half of their crops. Large numbers of boxes stacked ready to be packed were strewn over a wide area.
