The contest resulted in an easy win for Memorial by 15 matches or 122 games to six matches or 'B4 games, three matches not being played. EXHIBITION MATCH. EDWARDS BEATS HAWKSWORTH. Keen interest was taken in an exhibition match played at Miramar yes- ■ terday between N. V. Edwards. New Zealand champion, and P. Hawksworth North Island champion. Edwards won because, after losing the first set, he ’ made less mistakes off fairly straight- ‘ forward shots than did Hawksworth, ’ Hawksworth succeed in his design of ‘ keeping Edwards from the net. Each j respected the other's forehand to the e extent of trying to concentrate on the backhand. Hawksworth preferred to run round his backhand as often as possible. He showed skill in disguising the direction of his drives, and it might have been a different story if he could have eliminated the errors. His length r was more consistent than Edwards's. - and he showed skill in sudden playing o' ball shot, using the same action as | fi for a drive. It was a stroke that won | 0 points by its deceptiveness. Less er- f rors, not greater speed or more varied tl game, gave Edwards his victory. The I *■' game resulted: — " N. V. Edwards beat P. Hawksworth ' 26, G'?. ; 6'2. i
