LITTLE THEATRE SOCIETY
FIRST ANNUAL MEETING HELD LAST NIGHT. ACTIVITIES FOR COMING SEASON. The first annual meeting of the Masterton Little Theatre Society was held last night. Mr F. E. McCallum being in the chair. The annual report and balance sheet were adopted. Mrs T. Jordan said she thought the expenses for the presentation of "Lovers Leap" rather high, but alter the chairman had detailed the various items, members expressed themselves as being quite satisfied with the position. Officers were elected as follow: —Patron, Mr T. Jordan; president, Mr H. McKenzie Douglas; vice-presidents, Mrs H. P. Hugo, Mr H. H. Daniell; hon treasurer, Mr C. Kingdon; hon auditor. Mr A. D. Low: hon secretary, Mr T. E. Handcock; committee, Mrs P. Miller. Misses J. Betts. K. Cruiekshank and J. Douglas: Messrs J. A. Kennedy, V. Joseph and T. C. Wynne. A motion of thanks was passed to the provisional committee for its work since the formation of the society. Regret was expressed at the impending departure of Mr McCallum, who, in reply, said he would leave quite happy if members would promise to do their best to increase the membership. He urged each one to make an effort to secure two new members. It was agreed that the officers of the society comprise the following:-—Pat-ron, president, vice-president (one or more), hon secretary, hon treasurer, committee of seven, and an hon auditor. For the efficient carrying out of the society’s objects it was decided to set up the following sub-committees:— Play selection, casting, social evenings, social plays, publicity. To assist with public productions it was decided that the following should be appointed by the executive for each play:—Producer, stage manager (who would appoint his own assistant stage manager, and choose his own stage hands), wardrobe mistress, properties, house manager, programme committee. It was decided that the season’s activities should be as follow:—(a) Three public productions, to take place at the following times if practicable:—As soon as possible after Easter, at the end of June and in September. It was, suggested that “Libel” be presented during the year, but not as the first production. It was agreed that social evenings be held each month if practicable. At these would be presented one-act plays by different producers, with supper to' follow and dancing for a short period. Tutorial classes and discussion groups which would study the various branches of dramatic art wore also suggested. It was decided that subscriptions should be fixed at 15s for the year, each member to be entailed to 2 dress circle or orchestral stalls seats for each of the three public productions. It was also considered that where more than one member of a family wished to join the society, the membership fee for each member of a family after the first, be fixed at 7s 6d, those paying this reduced subscription however, to be entitled to only one seat for the public productions. Each member of the family would be classed as a full member- with full membership privileges. It was agreed that prices for the public productions be fixed at 4s, 2s 6d an.ls 6d.
