WEST SCHOOL
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. CARNIVAL TO BE HELD IN MARCH A meeting of the Masterton West School Committee was held last night, the chairman, Mr F. Shearer, presiding over a full attendance of members. It was decided to hold a carnival on Saturday, March 25, with a view to raising funds for the carrying out of special work at the school. The committee decided to procure three cricket bats and three balls for the use of school teams. It was decided that handwork material be purchased and that an immediate start should be made on work to be exhibited at the forthcoming combined school display to be held, in Masterton. The secretary. Mr W. V. Madden, was instructed to write to the Wellington Education Board regarding the delay in repairing earthquake damage at the school and to make inquiries regarding the repair of asphalt areas. Arrangements for the swimming sports, which are to be held on Monday, February 27, were left in the hands of the headmaster, Mr D. S. Rust. Members of the committee expressed pleasure at the manner in which the school grounds were being kept. Accounts totalling £BO 17s 3d were passed. The headmaster reported the roll number to be 344. Miss Brisco had been appointed a supernumery and Miss Howes a probationary assistant. Outdoor games and activities were being carried out during February. It was reported that the Wellington Education Board was calling tenders for the erection of a tool shed at the school.
