GREYTOWN

OLD LANDMARK DISAPPEARS. (“Times-Age” Special.) An old landmark, the Kaitara School (Morison's Bush) is being removed and already practically all the old building has been pulled down. The school children from the district are now taken by motor bus to the Greytown school. Funeral of Mr J. Workman. There was a large attendance at the funeral of the late Mr J. Workman which took place at Greytown yesterday afternoon. The service at the house and graveside was conducted by the Rev. W. F. Stent, of Carterton. The fireman’s service was read by Secretary Carter. The Greytown Fire Brigade attended in uniform and all the Wairarapa brigades were represented. The coffin was carried on the fire engine to the cemetery. On the top of the coffin were placed the late fireman’s helmet and tunic. Pinned to his tunic was the Fire Brigade’s Association’s gold star and bars. Among those at the funeral were the Mayor (Mr A. W. Horton), the Deputy-Mayor (Mr W. A. Tate), and members of the Borough Council. Mr E. McKenzie represented the Wairarapa Rugby Union. Among the many beautiful floral tributes were the following: Greytown Fire Brigade, Mayor and Councillor, Borough of Greytown, Greytown Football Club, Featherston Fire Brigade, fellow workers of deceased, and the Greytown Swimming Club.
