RAM FAIR
RATHER POOR DEMAND AT SOLWAY BUYERS TAKE THINGS EASY. SPASMODIC BIDDING. There was a large and representative attendance of buyers at the Masterton A. and P. Association’s annual ram fail-, which opened at Solway Showgrounds this morning. The sale opened with a line of fairly uniform quality flock Lincoln rams. There was little demand, however, and bidding was spasmodic, only five pens being sold under the hammer. Flock Romney rams followed with much the same result, although Mr I. Carne Bidwill, of Featherston, met with his usual success with a fine line of 2-shears. At limes it was more a procession than a sale. Early it was obvious that buyers were out to merely pick the eyes out of the offering. As the sale progressed there was animated bidding at times for top lines lots, but generally speaking prices did not reach vendors’ expectations. This afternoon stud Romney rams will be offered and the sale will be continued tomorrow, when flock Southdowns, Ryelands, Leicesters and stud Southdown ewes and rams ivill be sold. Details of the sale were as follow up to the time of going to press (the sheep all being one-shear except where otherwise stated): FLOCK LINCOLNS.
