HEALTH STAMPS
BIG INCREASE IN MASTERTON SALES. LAST YEAR’S TOTAL MORE THAN DOUBLED. A very gratifying response has been made by the public to the appeal in Masterton to buy health/stamps,, and judging by the results achieved the public appreciated having the . matter brought under their personal notice by means of the canvass arranged by the local committee. The total sales at the close of business yesterday, when the health stamps were withdrawn from sale, amounted to £l4O, and a further sum of £8 9s 6d was received in donaticns. Included in the latter amount were donations of £4 4s from the Post Office staff, and £ 1 Is from Messrs Huga and Shearer, Ltd. Last year the total sales were £6O 8s 8d and donations 16s 7d. Although the sale of health stamps has ceased, donations can still be made, and it has been suggested that an easy way of raising funds is by organising an egg day among the schools of the town, and neighbourhood. The children make donations of eggs, and these are disposed of to the local retailers, and the proceeds donated to the fund.
