Mr Horatio E. Ranwell, of 81 Queen’s Drive, Lyall Bay, has been on a short visit to relatives in Masterton. Father Durning, of the Marist Mission, is at present staying at the Carterton Presbytery as the guest of Father Devlin. Father Dillon, of Masterton, is also a guest at the Presbytery for a few days. Mr H. M. Boddington left Masterton this morning for Australia as manager of a junior tennis team that is visiting Australia. Mr Boddington sails from Wellington by the Wanganella this evening. Th Hon W. Nash, Minister of Finance, left Wellington for Auckland by the Limited Express last night. The Minister, who expects to return to Wellington on Saturday, is to give an address at an Auckland business men’s luncheon. Mr H. I. Thodey, inspector for New Zealand for the Bank of Australasia, will retire on April 10 after 44 years’ service in the bank in Australia and New Zealand. Mr Thodey will be succeeded by Mr E. A. Cameron, manager of the Auckland branch. The pending retirement of Mr W. W. Samson, registrar of the Supreme Court and sheriff in Wellington, and registrar of the Court of Appeal, has been announced. Mr Samson will relinquish his duties about the end of June. Mr Samson has given over 40 years’ service to the Department of Justice, entering it as a cadet in the Supreme Court, Christchurch, in 1898. Mr J. H. Kemnitz, of the Masterton Public Trust Office, has resigned in order to enter business on his own iccount in Oamaru as a solicitor, and will leave Masterton early -in March. Besides being a valued member of the Public Trust Office staff Mr Kemnitz ras taken a prominent part in various novements associated with the progress and sport of the town. In cricketing circles Mr Kemnitz has rendered excellent service both as an official and a player and his departure will be a distinct loss to the Old Boys’ Bricket Club and the Wairarapa Cricket Association.
