GENE AUTRY
A POPULAR PERSONALITY. In addition to his screen success, Gene Autry is a front rank radio star, a much sought after singer for phonograph records, and a composer of songs. When he’s not busy doing these things he takes his horse, "Champion,” and goes on personal appearance lours, so that one might more accurately term him a “five-career man.” Does any of this go to. Gene’s head? Not at all. He’s the same good-natured, easygoing lad he was in Texas, where he first started entertaining the neighbours with his guitar and his appealing tenor voice. On one occasion he was on a train which was carrying a large number of picture people to a special broadcast. Although the train was full of the glamour boys and girls, it was Gene the crowd called for. And, to oblige them, he signed autographs for two hours and whiled away the journey singing to his admirers. Gene takes his fan mail seriously. He follows up the flaws pointed out by those who write to him, and strives diligently to correct them in his next picture. Two correspondents to whom he writes weekly, without fail, are twin girls, who were injured in an automobile accident on their way to see an Autry film.
